Tools and Issues - Parenting in the News
A study presented at the Carolinas HealthCare System Obesity Conference in Charlotte, N.C. found that the more controlling the parents were about telling their child to clean their plate,

the more likely the kids, especially the boys, were to request larger portions of sweetened cereal at daycare. Brian Wansink of Cornell University, the author of Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think conducted the study of 63 mothers and their children.

I think weight watchers would love to keep this information out of the public eye as they make a pretty penny teaching people to leave food on their plate and take smaller potions sizes. The thing is, we have to place our priority in the right expectations. I expect my kids will eat until they are full. I expect that they will not want to eat  ten minutes after a meal is finished. When I hear that my child wants to leave the table and I think that maybe she is still hungry, I repeat our normal snack time and tell her I expect that she will not ask for anything until then. This then goes one of two ways,  she eats a bit more or she says okay.

What are your experiences? Do you agree/disagree with the study? Share in our comments area.
